It's a very vulnerable and quite scary experience, so once creepy things start to happen, it's quite hard not to be scared. The eeriness of looking up and down and all around you in a completely empty carriage is both stunning and unnerving. You will jump in places, you may let out a scream or you may just sit grinning from ear to ear in awe at the VR world unfolding around you. Terrifying - At first I was too nervous to go on it but when I finally had enough courage I came out of it so terrified I had to have something to eat to calm down. I just haven't been on a ride that terrified me to death for quite a while. It's hard not to get caught up in the action, as the live movement of the train interacts seamlessly with the images.
In these scenes Thorpe and Derren really throw the book at you and it's clear to see why an age restriction has been put on this experience. We thought it was mind scramblingly scary fun.

The sense of dread created towards Chapel Station is impressive. Riders step off the train into dark corridors reminiscent of the Catacombs in Paris. Skulls line the walls as far as the eye can see, it’s a suitably dark lead up to the rides most memorable scene: The Crypt. The Crypt is huge dark room, full of wraiths, a coffin and skulls that flash dramatically. It’s steeped in a demonic atmosphere. Inside this room guests witness a train conductor become possessed, before the music crescendos and a wrath flies across the room above the heads of the crowd. This effect made me scream every single time we rode Ghost Train. Before you have time to recover from the overhead scare, more ground-based wraiths have surrounded you. They ominously appear, seemingly out of nowhere, and the impact is chilling to the bone. I adored this scare section. It was so much more than a person jumping out and screaming at you. It created a genuine knot of fear in my tummy. Ghost Train goes far beyond ‘re-imagined ride’ territory and soars into a merit all its own: worlds most unique and immersive Ghost Train. And easily one of the scariest too.

It’s always a nerve-racking experience going on a ride that’s designed to be scary for the first time. The Ghost Train is an interesting ride, because for the most part, it really isn’t very scary. This ride relies mainly on techniques that have been around for decades for example, like blacklight and UV paint and traditional horror imagery and characters like vampires, skeletons and a banshee. In essence, it is these new scenes that help to make what would otherwise be a fairly tame ghost train ride a little more unnerving, as you never know each time you ride it if something new and scarier will have been added. I guess the overall charm of the Ghost Train is the way the scenes are interspersed. I can see this ride being frightening to particularly young children, or maybe if it’s your first time and you really don’t know what to expect. But overall, I’m a bit of a wuss, and I don’t find this scary at all. Admittedly this is still a family ride so these scenes are probably nowhere near as scary as they could be, but it’s still enough to leave you vaguely concerned that something horrendous is going to jump out at you from somewhere.
