Grade II listed Blowing Sands Cottage is a rarity in Blackpool, having been built before the town took off as a Victorian seaside resort. Originally two tiny adjoining cottages, it once fronted onto a wide beach at Marton Moss, before the Blackpool we know today even existed. A blue plaque outside the cottage states it is one of the few remaining early agricultural dwellings on the area known as Blowing Sands, Marton Moss. The little cottage, at 166 Common Edge Road, was one of the lots being offered by Pugh Auctions in December last year, with a pre-auction guide price of £70,000 and a bidders' reserve price of £80,000. Motorists travelling down Blackpool's Common Edge Road will pass it every day - but this little house is one of the town's oldest and is up for sale. An 18th century cottage in Marton is looking for a careful owner after surprisingly failing to find a buyer at auction last year.

The 18th century, grade II listed cottage has been earmarked by historians as being one of the few remaining early dwellings from the agricultural past of Blackpool’s Marton Moss area. Originally built as two adjoining cottages, Blowing Sands on Common Edge Road, now a single two-storey property, is built from traditional cobble and bricks with a low slate roof. A blue plaque on the front of the cottage marks it out as part of the Blackpool Civic Trust heritage trail and states that the house now stands as ‘the representative of several similar late-18th century dwellings in the area’. This property is an utterly charming and unique relic of what this area of Blackpool was like more than two centuries ago when it was mainly farmland. The house has been well cared for and little altered over the years and it is well known to passers by as a remarkable and very old cottage.

On the market for £80,000 with Pugh Auctions, this is one of Blackpool’s oldest properties. Dating back to the18th century, this Grade II listed building still has some of its original features including low beamed ceilings and incredible character like any other 200 year old cottage. Originally two tiny adjoining cottages, it once fronted onto a wide beach at Marton Moss before the Blackpool we know today even existed, with a blue plaque outside the cottage stating that it’s one of the few remaining early agricultural dwellings on the area known as Blowing Sands.
