The RNLI is a charity that saves lives at sea. Blackpool lifeboat station is FREE entry and located on Central Promenade in front of Blackpool Tower. It is one of only two lifeboat stations that have three inshore lifeboats - an Atlantic 85 Inshore Lifeboat, B867, William and Eleanor, two IB1 D Class Inshore Lifeboats, D732 Basil Eric Brookes and D729 Eileen Mary George. Launch and Recovery is performed using a Landrover (for the D class) and a Talus Tractor (for the Atlantic). The Atlantic 85 is capable of 25 knots and can search for 2.5 hours at full speed. The 2 IB1 D Class lifeboats are capable of 25 knots and can search for 3 hours at maximum speed. Each boat requires 3 trained crew to operate at optimum levels.
